METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods of removing chewing gum from concrete usually depends on the gum’s age and level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the gum was left recently and it hasn’t penetrated the surface, we are sometimes able to remove it by covering it with ice until it freezes, then scraping the gum off with a metal putty knife.

The ice forces the chewing gum to freeze into a more forgiving consistency compared to a warm and stringy glob. Once that happens, we slide a metal putty knife or scraper directly under the gum. After that we slide the scraper slowly beneath the gum and the whole piece should then peel right off of the concrete.

The above process is only possible with brand new gum.

When we remove chewing gum that has turned black, or is smashed down into the concrete, we use a hot water power washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees in order to melt the chewing gum. For this type of gum removal service, we don’t use very high pressure because that might ruin the surface of the concrete!

Our team never uses more pressure than needed to safely clean commercial concrete surfaces. These surfaces can be damaged a lot easier than most people think, especially if they’re only a couple of years old. Concrete can require up to 100 years to cure completely. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our professional chewing gum removal service.
